Don't wait until January!

It's a well known phenomena in the fitness industry that January brings a ton of new gym members and fitness equipment purchases. I certainly saw that when I worked at Curves. But if you feel like refreshing your workout regimen or starting a new workout regimen why wait until January. Start now!

I'm planning to share a few videos in the coming days by other fitness influencers to give you ideas about what kind of workouts might work for you with minimal equipment needed.

Video Workout 1 - Beginner Barre

Hubby and I did this YouTube workout video today to test it out for my followers. Here are a few thoughts:

  • It is too intense for most beginners so know your limits and take rests as needed! Just do what you can.
  • Many moves are done for too long, beginners don't need sore muscles on day one that make it hard to sit down on the toilet all week!
  • There are some great moves in this to strengthen legs and core, so give it a go and take away from it what you love and can live with incorporating into your repertoire regularly.
I give this one three stars ⭐⭐⭐ mostly because it's stated as a beginners class and I don't think that's appropriate for this video. I think she needs to shorten the length of time moves are performed so beginners can build the strength they need for longer holds/moves.

Like all internet workout videos you need to keep 3 things in mind:
  1. Do what you can (skip some moves or do them for less time than the professional instructor)
  2. Don't do anything that hurts! Ever!
  3. Take breaks as needed - killing yourself today won't motivate you to do a workout tomorrow, it's more likely to deter you.
Individualize!
Individualizing any workout means listening to your body AND forget the succeed or fail mentally. Do what works for you. If you need to take a break perhaps have a drink of water, take a few deep breaths or do a stretch whilst your body recovers. Modify moves/poses as needed to suit yourself. Be proud of what you can do!

But remember don't wait until January 1. It's an arbitrary date on a calendar.

Remember...
