There is a pervasive myth that yin yoga is just beginners yoga, that is totally untrue! Yin yoga helps to increase the flexibility of connective tissue whilst muscles are somewhat relaxed. In fact it's quite difficult for beginners.
These yin yoga prep sequences are designed to introduce the concept of holding yoga poses for longer periods of time. Yin yoga is a passive stretch so many postures will be supine or prone poses so that muscles are fairly relaxed whilst stretching connective tissues of the body such as the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments.
Yin poses are held for between 3 and 20 mins but you can start by simply holding the pose for as long as it is comfortable and then start trying to hold the pose a little longer each week.
