3 Things I Learned my First Time Snorkeling
Today hubby and I went snorkeling for the first time. I had never snorkelled before. We snorkelled at Point Peron in Rockingham, Western Australia. The waters are part of a protected marine park.
We snorkelled for a couple of hours, the ocean flora was like an undersea wildflower garden! We saw about a dozen different sorts of fish.
As a beginner, I figured out three tips for others like me new to snorkeling:
- Relax and let the sea life below entertain you, you don't need to "swim" around a lot to enjoy the experience and in fact, you're probably scaring half the fish away if you do.
- Breathing through the snorkel gear is easiest when you totally relax and don't try to control your breathing, this can be a tricky thing at first if you are an anxious person.
- Check the safety of the area before entering the water. Do your research to find great places abundant with sea life but... know that if you do there's often a risk of sharks in those same waters.
Only two hours after we left Point Peron yesterday a shark alert was active for a shoal of ten sharks in the exact area we were snorkeling! Here in WA we have a great website available:
