Wheelchair Friendly Suburban Perth Trails

I'm on the hunt for Wheelchair Friendly Suburban Perth Trails and I'm planning to compile a list of my favourites and add them to my Wheelchair Trails page on the blog click on that page tab above towards the top of the blog for the details.

Today we went to Little Rush Lake in the Yangebup/South Lake area of the southern suburbs.

Total Distance: 3km (includes distance from parking lot to entry gate)

Surface: asphalt

Parking: across the road at the corner of North Lake Road and Osprey Drive (entry off Osprey).  Note: there is a traffic light to safely cross the road to the lake entry gate!

Toilet facilities : none.  But the South Lake Shopping Centre is nearby and has good public toilets and the bakery in there does a great pie or sausage roll if you work up a hunger on the roll.

Features: wetland area with lots of birds, the predominant flora was eucalypt, banksia,  wattle and fabulous Spring wildflowers.

I went with hubby Matt and his dad Peter.
It's fairly flat but Matt pushed me up the steepest of the little hills and across the road at the traffic lights on Osprey Dr because I'm new to navigating with wheels and a little nervous in traffic! But I self propelled for about 2km! I'm stoked about that as a newbie ambulatory wheelchair user who is still building upper body strength!
This is a fabulous little roll or walk and we really enjoyed it. But I did end up with three blisters on my hands so I need some wheelchair gloves before the next outing.
It took us a little over an hour but I'm sure it'd be possible to do it faster if you are an experienced wheelchair user or if you are on foot.  FYI: You could pack a picnic and eat by the lake there is a nice viewpoint.
I'm now confident I chose the right wheelchair for my current needs (something I agonised over)! So I'm looking forward to exploring all the paved surfaces I can in the coming months! Stay tuned for more trail info.
The wildflowers were really delightful:
So Spring is definitely a great time to do this walk or roll.
