Walking is Back in Vogue!
It's Fall here in Colorado so the weather is fabulous! That's made me adjust my exercise planning to fit in more time for walking so I can enjoy the perfect weather before winter is upon us. A nice long walk is the first major thing I do each day.
Walking is gaining in popularity again ATM after social media and the fitness industry spent a few years seemingly dominated by running and strength training.
Five benefits of walking are:
- Minimal chance of injury
- Great for cardiovascular health
- Almost everyone can do it - at their own pace and with whatever accommodations they need
- You can incorporate use of walking dumbbells to include additional strengthening
- You just need shoes so it's minimal prep & expenditure.
Remember your long term activity planning is just that planning not a rule book, you can be fluid and adjust as needed to suit your lifestyle, climate, physical and mental needs etc.
I find it helpful to plan for an amount of time spent daily on physical activity/exercise rather than a prescribed plan of action for each day, that way I can do whatever my whim decides and adjust for seasonal weather changes. Come winter there will be plenty of time for indoor exercise like the gym.
Note: I still do yoga a couple of times a week to ensure I maintain my strength and flexibility for yoga teaching.
