Goal Setting for Health & Wellness Success

Do you have trouble knowing where to start with goal setting?  Here are a few things I think are vital:

  • What activities and habits contribute to your health and wellness? Make a list!
  • How much time do you realistically have to devote to achieving H & W success?
  • What are things that have been slipping down your priority list that should be done to help you achieve H & W?
So now you are armed with that info write a goal for tomorrow, just one thing you want to achieve.

The "One Thing a Day" philosophy is a great strategy to slowly change your lifestyle in meaningful ways. Choose one thing to do each day that will really make you feel you are making progress on something that has been stressing you or getting neglected.

Getting that one thing done makes you feel empowered, confident and ready to make more goals.

Then think about slightly longer term goals. What do you want to achieve in a week?

Remember, be realistic goals are NOT wish lists.

Goals should be:
Specific:         S        Be very specific so you know when you reach the goal!
Measurable:   M       How will you measure your success?
Achievable:    A        Is the goal achievable given your current circumstances?
Realistic:        R        Goals are realistic achievable things not wish lists!
Timely:          T         What period of time are you planning this goal for?

So think about those goal setting philosophies as you write your goals.

I recommend working on weekly goals for a while if you are new to goal setting, then you can gain confidence in your process.

Once you feel ready, try setting a quarterly goal. What do you want to have achieved 3 months from now?

And then you could move on to setting annual goals.

What kind of things could your H & W goals be about?? Here are a few ideas:
  • Meal prepping
  • Increasing fruit and vegetable intake
  • Exercise/outdoor recreation
  • Prioritizing time for meditation/mindfulness
  • Reading to gain knowledge on a subject (such as goal setting) that can help you progress
  • Keeping track of your daily activities in a journal or app
  • Down time (it is okay to be still)
There are lots of ways you can plan for your health and wellness! Start today with goal setting!
