Adapt and Modify

After hurting my back last week I've decided that one of my yoga classes this week is impossible (I've requested a sub) but the other four I can still do by utilizing verbal and visual prompts primarily.

The three children's classes I'll do using flash cards and printable prompts and we'll stick to poses the children are confident with. We usually play a yoga themed game for 10 to 15 mins as well which will still work well.

For the Tuesday afternoon class (teaching elementary school teachers yoga) I'm planning to do a yoga circuit to encourage participants to focus on specific poses for two minutes at a time. This was something I was planning on trying in the coming weeks anyway so it didn't take much effort to finalize the lesson planning. I'll take along an inversion bench for them to try along with a long soft foam roller and my yoga wheel! So we'll have 10+ stations and move every two minutes, I expect them to go through the entire circuit twice, then we will finish with some supine core strengthening stretches. This will give me more of a chance to focus on alignment and adjustment this week.

So adaptation and modification will ensure that these clients don't miss it on their yoga this week whilst my back recovers.

In the mean time I'll be resting in my IKEA Poang armchair which is a great ergonomic design that's comfortable for my sore back.
