One Year of Yoga! What were the benefits?

March 1st 2021 I began my yoga teacher training! I had done yoga before that but not as routinely as I do it now. 

So what benefits have I noticed:

  1. Stronger wrists
  2. Thighs are more toned
  3. More flexibility
  4. Less back pain
  5. More stamina
  6. More confidence
  7. Increased calm
  8. Improved breath and movement synchronization
  9. Getting up of the floor is easier. I used to avoid getting on the floor because getting up was challenging!
  10. I developed a true passion for yoga
  11. Started a new career as a yoga teacher!
So 2021 was an epic year of yoga studies. I completed 500hrs of yoga teacher training as well as 100hrs of meditation teacher training. But it was an amazing experience that not only improved my overall health but also my mental and spiritual health.
I'm planning to focus more on incorporating more core strengthening poses and movements moving forward and look forward to another fabulous year of progress!
Here are some pose photos from March 2021. I am sharing them to highlight the progress made in a more specific and measured way:
Goddess
I can now get my thighs horizontal to the floor!
Pyramid
I can now bend my torso below horizontal
Boat
I now practice full boat rather than half boat
Pigeon
I can now place forehead on floor on prone pigeon
Down Dog
My heels are on the mat during down dog
Plank
I no longer use the more ergonomic dumbbell grip for plank
So if you are beginning a yoga asana practice journey take photos! You'll be amazed later at how far you've come!
